Photo exhibition by young nuns held in Leh

A Photo exhibition was held in Tourist Information Centre, Leh on 19th September. The Theme of the Exhibition was “HappYness”. Around thirty nuns of Sakya Nunnery, Choglamsar took the photos and presented their idea of happiness.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner- Leh, R.K Badyal, Chief Executive Officer - Development Authority, Leh Dr. Zahida Bano, SDM Tangtse N.D. Sharma, tourists and students were present.
Paola Marcallo an Italian photographer said, that, for two months she had been working with the nuns, teaching about the photography, techniques and making them aware about the world around them and making them know that photography is the great tool for self-expression. In HappYness project, the nuns have captured the moment of their daily life in the monastery, schools and the leisure time.
The second part of the exhibition is the “One photo for a change”, in which interaction was done with the tourist and travellers who visits Ladakh from different parts of the world. Because of the rise of tourism, land and local people of Ladakh is also becoming the subject of photography. Thus, we initiated this part, inviting tourists and travellers to become the subject of photography in Ladakh for a change and took their photographs in the open air studio with the trained hands of locals.
She further added that after two months they were able to come up with the exhibition, the meaning of happiness through capturing the moments and sharing with everyone.
Postcards and calendars were on sale at the exhibition, with the prime motive to use the income generated for the education of nuns.
