Tar village recognized as one of India’s best tourism villages for 2024

Tar village has been recognized as one of India’s Best Tourism Villages for 2024 in the Responsible Tourism category. The announcement, made on World Tourism Day, highlights the village's dedication to sustainable tourism practices that benefit both the environment and the local community.

The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh extended heartfelt congratulations to Tar village. Chairman/CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson praised the proactive leadership of the villagers, led by Nambardar and Councillor Lobzang Sherab, whose efforts were crucial in achieving this milestone. CEC Gyalson remarked that their commitment to preserving the village’s unique heritage while embracing responsible tourism sets an inspiring example for others.

The award ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, was attended by dignitaries including Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar; Union Minister of Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat; Minister of State for Tourism, Suresh Gopi; and Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. This recognition not only celebrates the hard work and dedication of the residents of Tar village but also positions it as a model for responsible tourism in the region.
