Ladakh opened its medal tally for the season with a historic performance at the 1st Federation Cup Taekwondo Championship held in Nashik, Maharashtra, from April 25–29, 2025. Team Ladakh clinched three gold medals, marking a proud and significant milestone for the Union Territory.

Shanaz Parveen, an international Taekwondo player and State Awardee, bagged gold in the Senior Under-30 Female Individual Poomsae category.

Sonam Chosphal, also an international player, secured gold in the Senior Under-30 Male Individual Poomsae event. Together, the duo displayed exceptional synergy and technical prowess to win a third gold in the Senior Under-30 Pair Poomsae category.

Both athletes are currently undergoing advanced training under renowned Taekwondo coach Master Atul Pangotra, whose expert mentorship has played a pivotal role in their continued success.

The players' families expressed heartfelt gratitude to Master Pangotra for his dedication and urged the Government of India to honor him with the prestigious Dronacharya Award, the nation’s highest accolade for sports coaching.

Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, congratulated the athletes on their remarkable achievement. “This historic victory reflects the hard work, discipline, and unwavering commitment of our athletes, and the invaluable guidance of Master Pangotra,” he said.

He added that the athletes’ success will serve as a powerful inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across Ladakh. “The Department of Youth Services and Sports remains committed to nurturing our young talent and ensuring they have opportunities to shine on national and international platforms,” Zubdavi stated.

Despite fielding just two athletes, Team Ladakh’s impressive haul of three gold medals stands as a shining testament to the region’s spirit of determination and excellence, bringing immense pride to the entire Ladakhi community.
