RLC triumphs at Kargil Football League 2024

The Kargil District Football League 2024 concluded on August 10 at the Astro Turf Kurbathang, Kargil.

The league was organized by the Kargil Football Association with support from the Ladakh Football Association. The closing ceremony was attended by Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, and Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jaan.

CEC Dr. Akhoon congratulated the winning team, RLC, and the runners-up, Shaheen FC from Saliskote. He emphasized the Hill Council's ongoing efforts to enhance sports infrastructure and provide necessary equipment for deserving athletes, whether in ice hockey or other sports.

Dr. Akhoon encouraged the players to view sports not just as a game but as a potential career. He highlighted the talent of Ladakh's youth, both girls and boys, to compete at international levels and urged them to maintain sportsmanship on and off the field.

He announced Rs 20,000 for the winning team, Rs 15,000 for the runners-up, and Rs 10,000 each for the other top two teams through Youth Services and Sports Kargil for the purchase of sports equipment. Dr. Akhoon assured continued support from the Hill Council for future initiatives.

MP Ladakh, Mohmad Haneefa Jaan, also congratulated the winners and runners-up. He spoke about the hidden talent in Ladakh and called on political, social, and administrative bodies at the UT and district levels to help prepare these talented youth for national and international platforms. He mentioned the ongoing construction of a multi-level indoor stadium in Kargil and the establishment of ice hockey rinks at the block level.

The MP also emphasized the potential of archery in the region and assured full support for its development.

The ceremony was also attended by Councillor Baroo-Minjee, Khadim Hussain; Councillor Saliskote, Sajjad Hussain; Former Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohd Ali Chandan; Secretary, Ladakh Football Association, Tsering Angmo; and representatives from the 121 Infantry Brigade and 31 Punjab Regiment.
