Nb Subedar Tsewang Chosgail conquers Mt. Kangchenjunga with NIMAS team

Bringing immense pride to the Union Territory of Ladakh, Nb Subedar Tsewang Chosgail has successfully summited Mt. Kangchenjunga (8,586 m)—India’s highest and the world’s third-highest mountain—on May 18, as a member of the expedition team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS). The mission was led by renowned mountaineer Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal, under the banner of the ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ initiative.
A seasoned mountaineer, Chosgail boasts over 15 years of high-altitude climbing experience and has participated in more than 35 mountaineering expeditions. He was also a proud member of the 2015 and 2016 Indian Army Everest-Lhotse Expeditions. His latest achievement is a testament to his unwavering dedication, remarkable endurance, and commitment to the spirit of Indian mountaineering.
Hailing from the village of Nang (Thiksay) in Ladakh, Tsewang Chosgail’s journey to the summit of Kangchenjunga marks a historic milestone—making him the first Ladakhi to scale this iconic peak. His inspiring story is one of grit, resilience, and unyielding determination.
Speaking after the successful summit, Chosgail said,“It was an honour to be the first Ladakhi to summit Mt. Kangchenjunga and to be part of this historic expedition conducted under the aegis of NIMAS. Climbing Kangchenjunga was not just a personal dream, but a moment to represent Ladakh, the Indian Army, and the entire nation under the Tiranga.”
The expedition has been widely lauded by the adventure sports community, particularly in Ladakh, and is expected to inspire many young Ladakhis to pursue careers in mountaineering and adventure sports.
