Mutahhary inter school sports event draws 520 students in Kargil
Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, attended the Mutahhary Inter School Mega Sports event at Kurbathang, Kargil, on June 8.
The event saw the participation of 520 students from 14 private and government schools competing in Under 14 and Under 17 boys and girls categories in volleyball, handball, and kho kho.
CEC Dr. Jaffer praised the Mutahhary Group of Schools for their role in promoting sports, emphasizing its importance for maintaining physical and mental health. He highlighted the necessity of being physically and morally fit and urged students to focus on sportsmanship, leadership, and other essential life skills.
Dr. Jaffer also paid tribute to the late Sheikh Mohammad Hussain Zakiri, the school's founder, acknowledging his significant contributions to the education system in Kargil. He suggested that the school faculty consider transitioning their curriculum to the CBSE pattern to enhance educational standards and announced a grant of Rs 5 lakh from the Council to purchase sports equipment.
During the prize distribution ceremony for winners and runners-up, the CEC encouraged the players to participate in sports activities and aim to excel at national events.
Nasir Ud Din Khafi, Academic Head of the Mutahhary Educational Society (MES), highlighted the achievements of the MES, noting that the school excels across its various branches. He stressed the importance of combining spiritual and physical strength with knowledge and commended the host school for concluding the event successfully without any clashes among the teams.
The event was also attended by Zakir Hussain, Executive Councillor for Education, LAHDC Kargil; Asgar Karbalai, Chief Patron of MES; G M Khan, General Secretary of IKMT; Haji Fida Hussain Wazir, Chairman of MES; the Principal of MPS High Department, along with faculty members and students from various schools.
