Friends Chiktan wins Captain Vikram Batra Memorial Cricket tournament in Kargil
Friends Chiktan triumphed over Sheena Kings Eleven Karkit Budgam in the final of the Veer Balidaani Captain Vikram Batra Memorial Cricket Tournament, held on October 22 at the Biamathang playfield.
The tournament, organized by Skarchan Sports Club Latoo in collaboration with the Indian Army, saw Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, as the chief guest for the final match.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Administrative Incharge of Kargil Campus UoL, Councillor of Chuli-Skambo Constituency, Councillor of Taisuru, Deputy Commander 121 Infantry Brigade, officers from the Indian Army, other dignitaries, and a large number of cricket enthusiasts.
In his address, Dr. Akhoon congratulated both the organizers and the teams for their efforts in making the tournament a success. He praised the performances of the winners, Friends Chiktan, and the runner-up team, Budgam, urging the youth to draw inspiration from the sportsmanship and dedication displayed on the field. He emphasized the importance of sports as a tool for both personal and physical development.
Dr. Akhoon also expressed his hopes to fulfill the long-standing demand for laying artificial grass at the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Biamathang playfield, during his tenure.
Reaffirming LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to supporting the youth and promoting sports as part of a healthy lifestyle, the CEC announced a grant of ₹3 lakh from the Untied Fund to Skarchan Sports Club Latoo for purchasing sports equipment. He further announced ₹2 lakh each to the winning and runner-up teams for similar purposes, while also sharing details of upcoming winter sports initiatives.
Councillor Taisuru also addressed the gathering, commending Skarchan Sports Club Latoo for their efforts in organizing the tournament.
