Workshop on Take Home Ration & Zero-Moderate Acute Malnutrition children held

One-day workshop on Take Home Ration under Poshan Abhiyan and Zero-Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) Children was organised by District Programme Officer, ICDS Projects Kargil, at Conference Hall in Baroo on June 6.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) commended the Anganwadi workers and helpers for their tireless efforts in providing nutritious supplements and conducting health check-ups and immunization, etc.

He informed about the instructions passed by the Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani to ensure zero MAM children in Ladakh along with the successful implementation of different centrally sponsored schemes by the ministry in the region.
 
LG assured to look into the issues raised by the Anganwadi workers and helpers and stated that the Administration, Hill Councils, and PRIs are with them. He expressed hope to see the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers working with the same passion and dedication to achieve the targets for the benefit of the children and pregnant/lactating mothers.

Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan suggested that recipes that provide supplements with the best nutrition value should be served to infants and pregnant/lactating mothers. He emphasised the need to change the tradition where mothers feed everyone and then eat at last. 

CEC assured to provide vacant government buildings and state lands, if available, for the establishment of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs). He also informed about the LPG gas connection provided to Anganwadi Centres for ensuring hot cooked meals to children between 3 to 6 years. 
He also assured to provide financial assistance for the successful implementation of the Take Home Ration programme, wherever permitted by financial rules.

Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Padma Angmo briefed LG about the ICDS programmes and the critical roles played by them for immunization and providing nutritious supplements for children between 3 to 6 years and pregnant/lactating mothers. She also informed about different recipes prepared by the Anganwadi workers and helpers to ensure that supplements with the best nutrition value are provided to the beneficiaries. She further briefed 

LG on several achievements/issues, viz. the need to change AWCs from private houses to state-owned buildings, the enhancement of salaries paid to AWWs, capacity-building training provided to around 450 AWWs at NIPCCD Mohali, the updation of the information on Poshan Tracker, Growth Monitoring device provided to AWWs and AWHs, the conduct of Poshan Pakhwada in different parts of Ladakh; aprons provided to AWWs and the target to achieve Zero MAM children in Ladakh, etc.

Director, Social Welfare Department, Poonam Beniwal, briefed about Poshan Abhiyan and different Anganwadi services provided by AWWs and AWHs, the recipes prepared by the AWWs and AWHs to provide nutritious supplements to Children between 3 to 6 years and pregnant/lactating mothers and also to bring down the numbers of MAM children in Ladakh.
