Government Degree College (GDC) Drass, in collaboration with District Hospital Kargil, organized a one-day workshop on mental health on October 23.

The workshop was divided into two sessions. The first session focused on understanding mental health through the lens of yoga and was conducted by yoga expert Niharika Sharma. This session was largely practical, with faculty and students participating in various yogic practices under the expert’s guidance. Niharika explained the significance of each practice in relation to physical, mental, and spiritual health.

The second session featured expert speakers Dr. Murtaza Ali, Consultant Psychiatrist, and Zakir Hussain, Psychologist, from District Hospital Kargil. Dr. Murtaza discussed mental health issues from a modern science perspective, highlighting the causes and effects of substance abuse, suicidal thoughts, and chronic mental disorders.

Zakir Hussain, in his presentation, emphasized coping strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety. Following the presentations, a Q&A session was held with the students, allowing for further discussion on these critical topics.

The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Incharge Principal Mohd Hassan. The event was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen, Director of Sports, and moderated by Dr. Haroon Rashid (faculty, History) under the supervision of College Principal Dr. Amjad Ali Abassi.
