Women to work unanimously against domestic violence

Women’s Wing Anjuman moin ul-Islam called a meeting against Domestic Violence in the state on 11 May at the office premises of Anjuman moin-ul-Islam Leh.
The meeting was attended by Women representatives of Ladakh Buddhist Association, Women Alliance Leh, Al Zahra Women’s Welfare Society Leh and Al-Zeinabia Women Welfare Society.
President Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Fatima Bano (Atum) highlighted that in Ladakhi society cases of domestic violence is very rare but the number of rape cases has increased since last few years. “Ours is a very close-knit society and that could be the reason that most of the domestic violence and kind of crime related to women go unreported. We must encourage our women to come forward and stand up for their dignity and rights”. She emphasized on the need to hold self-defense classes in schools. She further stressed to create awareness and educate women regarding their legal rights.
All women representatives of different religious organizations suggested ways to prevent domestic violence in particular and crime against women in general. All the organizations decided to work unanimously against all kinds of crime against women.
