Wildlife Campus Caravan campaign launches in Kargil

To create wildlife awareness and conservation consciousness among people especially school and college students, Wildlife Campus Caravan Campaign was launched by Muhammad Ali Chandan, EC Forests and Wildlife on December 2 at Degree College, Kargil.
The Wildlife Campus Caravan Campaign is a mobile wildlife awareness and capacity building initiative organised by the Wildlife Protection Division Kargil in collaboration with the Centre for Wildlife Studies and Conservation, Government Degree College Kargil.
Muhammad Ali Chandan highlighted the urgent need for conservation measures for the stability of natural resources and to understand the relation between humans and biodiversity. He said that wildlife conservation measures assume greater significance in the present times so that the future generations are allowed to live in cohesion with nature and natural surroundings.
He expressed optimism that the campaign will go long way in enlightening youngsters about the importance of wildlife as a means to maintain ecological balance, preserve heritage and culture, promotion of ecotourism, protection of ecological stability, etc.
Talking about conservation approaches and long-term initiatives by the Hill Council for wildlife conservation in the district, he said that 7 locations have been proposed by the Hill Council for setting up wildlife sanctuaries while as a requirement of 40 wildlife guards has also been taken up with the UT Administration Ladakh.
He further informed that concrete steps will be taken by the Hill Council to ensure that wildlife conservation activities in the district get a much-needed boost besides the chances of human-wildlife conflict are also minimized.
Muhammad Sajid Sultan, Regional Wildlife Warden Ladakh said that Kargil has unmatchable biodiversity and need of the hour is to understand and value it and take collective efforts by all concerned stakeholders to conserve it before it goes into oblivion.
He urged youngsters to participate enthusiastically in different activities during the campaign and contribute as ambassadors of wildlife conservation and protection.
Raza Ali Abidi, Wildlife Warden Kargil briefed about the schedule of activities to be undertaken during the campaign including wildlife talks, film screenings, competitions, wildlife panchayat and conservation certificate courses, photo exhibitions and allied activities at Degree College Kargil, Satellite Campus University of Ladakh besides different Higher Secondary’s and High Schools in the coming days.
Dr. Amina Qari, Principal Government Degree College, Kargil; Shahid Anwar Khan, Engineering Head AIR Kargil; Assistant Professors of the college, other concerned officers, and students were present on the occasion.
The photo and painting exhibition on the birds and mammals of Kargil was also showcased.
