Weeklong program on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana starts in Leh
A weeklong programme on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) themed “Towards building a healthy nation (Surakshit Janani Viksit Dharini)” was launched on December 2 at DC Office, Conference Hall.
While launching the programme, Sachin Kumar, DC Leh stressed on the importance of making people aware of all such centrally sponsored schemes and to avail maximum benefit of it.
He asserted that for India to progress and prosper, its people should be physically healthy, mentally strong and fully energised to work hard. He said that PMMVY is a government initiative scheme providing monetary support to pregnant women to ensure healthy delivery of the baby and good health of the mother.
He further urged all the ward members and Sarpanches to inform and motivate people to avail benefit from this scheme. Also, he asked them to remain in contact with a government agency, ICDS centres and SNM Hospital to bring into their notice a genuine beneficiary and for maximum reach of the scheme at the grass-root level.
Talking about PMMVY, Kunzes Angmo, District Programme Officer, ICDS said that it’s a maternity benefit programme with the provision to provide an incentive of ₹5000 in three installments for the first child to every pregnant woman except for regular government employees.
She said that the objective of the meeting is to inform the Ward members and Sarpanches about the scheme and urge them to spread information about the scheme at the village level with an aim to build a healthy nation.
CDPO, Leh informed that till date around 384 beneficiaries have been enrolled and availed the benefit of this scheme in Leh district.
