Various games, quiz & drawing competition held during month long Siachen celebration

The month long Siachen celebration culminated with Wreath Laying at the Siachen War Memorial Base Camp on 15 May.
The Chief Guest was Maj Gen CS Nugyal, PVSM, UYSM (Retd) the Ex Siachen Bde Cdr from Feb 1987 to Oct 1988. During his tenure as the Cdr 102 Inf Bde, many Ops were launched in the Northern and Central Glacier which strengthened the position of India Army in the Glacier for times to come.
The previous day the Gen offr vis Tyakshi, Turtuk, Post 9 and Umlung Caves near Sasoma and Panamik where he met with L/Hav Phuntsog Stobdan, VrC (Retd) who fought in 1971war at Chanlunka along with Late Col Chhewang Rinchen, MVC*, SM (Retd).
In the evening, there were addresses to Officers and JCOs by the Gallant Veterans and Chief Guest where they shared their rich experiences and knowledge.
On 15 May, ceremonies started with Wreath Laying which was attended by Gallantry Award winners, ESM, Veer Naris, many Govt and civil officials and locals of the Nubra Valley.
Various outdoor games like Football, Archery, Mini Marathon were organised during the month long Siachen Celebration.
Indoor competitions like quiz and drawing were also conducted. Youth and students of the Nubra valley participated enthusiastically in all events.
It was conducted with an aim to inculcate and develop team spirit, bonhomie and Sportsman spirit amongst the youth.
Three outdoor games were conducted during the event. Football was the first event to be conducted in first week of May. The event was a great success with no of teams participating along the Nubra, Shyok and Central axis.
There were League matches followed by semi-finals and final. The winner of the competition was felicitated. Second such outdoor event was Mini Marathon. Archery was conducted with great zeal and enthusiasm where number of people participated to show their age old tradition, skill and talent.
Students from various Govt Schools and Army Goodwill Schools (AGS) took part in Quiz and Drawing competitions to show their knowledge and imagination. Finally, the gala event ended with final ESM rally at the DIHAR Mela ground where again ESM and Veer Naris of the Central Axis were felicitated and their grievances were addressed and resolved during the event.
The highlight of the celebrations was cultural programmes where local troupe and cultural teams from various villages and schools performed on Ladakhi culture, music and dance.
