UoL Vice-Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha makes maiden visit to Kargil campus

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh (UoL), Prof. Saket Kushwaha, made his inaugural visit to the Kargil Campus at Khumbathang on February 4, where he received a warm welcome from students, faculty, and non-teaching staff.
Accompanied by Controller of Examinations, Prof. Deskyong Namgyal; In-charge Registrar, Nawang Tundup; and Associate Director of the School of Agriculture Science and Technology (Leh), Dr. Dorjay Namgyal, the Vice-Chancellor engaged in an interactive session with the campus community.
During the visit, Dr. Mehboob Ali, In-charge Administration of the Kargil Campus, presented an overview of the campus, highlighting its vision, layout, academic progress, student achievements, faculty and staff structure, and existing infrastructure. He also outlined key requirements for further development, including approval of the master plan, construction of staff quarters and a conference hall, high-speed internet connectivity, retrospective recognition of B.Ed and B.P.Ed courses, and the appointment of a sports coach.
Representing the student body, the President of the Ladakh University Student Union at Kargil Campus raised several issues for consideration. These included establishing clear departmental coordinatorship, better management of departmental affairs, granting autonomy to departments, setting up a dedicated Student Union Office to facilitate communication, implementing a rotational Vice-Chancellor office between Leh and Kargil, improving heating facilities in faculty cabins, creating a permanent doctor post, increasing bus services, installing water dispensers and dustbins, and providing sanitary pads for female students.
Faculty, non-teaching staff, and students also voiced additional challenges during the interactive session. In response, Prof. Saket Kushwaha assured that he would be present at the Kargil Campus two days a week and promised that all concerns would be addressed in accordance with established norms.
Later, the Vice-Chancellor visited the School of Agriculture Science and Technology at the Kargil Campus. Chief Scientist and Head of the School, Dr. Faizan Ahmed, along with faculty members, staff, and students, extended a warm welcome.
Prof. Saket Kushwaha congratulated the students on their academic pursuits and praised the staff for their dedication in establishing the campus within a short period. He reiterated his commitment to addressing the issues raised and ensuring continual progress.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Prof. Deskyong Namgyal, Nawang Tundup, Dr. Dorjay Namgyal, Dr. Faizan Ahmed, along with faculty members and students.
