Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Drass, Ladakh, on July 26.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed annually to commemorate India's victory in the Kargil War of 1999. This significant day honors the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers who fought valiantly in the conflict with Pakistan, ultimately reclaiming territory and securing a decisive victory. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this significant victory, which highlights the courage and determination of the soldiers who fought valiantly at icy heights. As the nation celebrates this milestone, the families of the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War remember their bravery and dedication.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized, "This day tells us that the sacrifices made for the nation are immortal," highlighting the enduring legacy of the soldiers' valor.

Chief Executive Councillor Tashi Gyalson also paid tribute, honoring the memories of those who fought and fell during the conflict.

In a notable development, PM Modi virtually conducted the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This critical infrastructure project includes the construction of a 4.1 km twin-tube tunnel at an altitude of 15,800 feet under the Shinkun Pass, located on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha road. The tunnel, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,681 crore, is expected to be the highest in the world upon completion.

The Shinkun La Tunnel Project, approved by the PM-led cabinet committee on security in February of the previous year, will ensure all-weather connectivity to Leh. It aims to significantly enhance the swift and efficient movement of armed forces and equipment, fostering economic and social development in Ladakh.

CEC Tashi Gyalson extended gratitude to the Prime Minister for laying the foundation stone of the Shinkun La Tunnel and expressed congratulations to the people of Zanskar and Ladakh for this monumental infrastructure project.
