Pre-World Environment Day cleanliness drive held along Indus Belt and Jive Tsal

In the lead-up to World Environment Day 2025, the State Medicinal Plant Board (SMPB), Union Territory of Ladakh, organized a full-day cleanliness drive to promote environmental awareness and combat plastic pollution on June 4.
The drive was conducted at multiple locations along the Indus River belt and at Jive Tsal, focusing on preserving Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem and reinforcing the global call to “Beat Plastic Pollution.”
Staff members from the Directorate of Health Services, the National AYUSH Mission, and the SMPB actively participated in the initiative. The day began with a pledge ceremony, during which participants committed to protecting the environment and reducing plastic usage in their daily lives.
Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director of Health Services/AYUSH and CEO of the SMPB, was present at the event. He emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness and urged everyone to adopt sustainable practices, particularly by minimizing plastic consumption.
This initiative not only contributed to cleaner surroundings but also served as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for collective action to protect Ladakh’s unique environment. The SMPB continues to encourage all citizens to participate in the global movement for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
