YERATH :
Joining hands for a better future, Go Green Go Organic celebrated 2nd Green Ladakh Festival on April 22 in Yerath, Changthang.

The day with an initiative towards controlling the environmental issues was organised by Go Green, Go Organic, Chillam, Yerath, Phalonglay in collaboration with LEHO, Golden Mile Learning and the eight Gobas of Lalok.

Thousands of people from eight villages of Lalok region planted 4,000 trees in Yerath and Chillam villages. With this, the Go Green Go Organic project starts its 6th phase.

His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche, UN Mountain Ambassador said, “Maintaining a balanced ecology is not only the responsibility of the NGOs and the Government but it is the responsibility of all to make it successful”.

“The main motive of this initiative is to make Ladakh an eco-friendly and organic region. Plantation of several types of trees can also be a good source of income. Plants like sea-buckthorn have several health benefits and have planted in Shayok and Yurgo on a trial basis.  If it is grown successfully, we can plant more in the near future”, His Holiness said.

Expressing happiness over the successful project, His Holiness said, “I am glad to see Go Green Go Organic successful at international level as well. Today it is the 6th phase of the plantation which is made possible with the support of people of Lalok from the beginning.”

Moulana Mahmood Madani, General Secretary, Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind said, “It is a praiseworthy initiative that at such a barren land, the plantation has been carried out from last six years. Along with plantations we also need to make our heart green today. Today we are developed in all sectors but are losing the value of love, compassion, and trust among the people. With trees plantation, we must make our heart also green and maintain the culture and values.”

Namgyal Durbuk, Director, Go Green, Go Organic said, “We are happy that we have completed 6th phase of 3GO. We have been holding plantation drive in different villages of Lalok region and till today 3 lakh different types of trees are planted.”

Tsering Wangdus, EC, Agriculture said that Hill council is striving to make Ladakh an organic district and also with the initiative of His Holiness the dream will be successful. He assured every help from Hill Council.

Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder, (SHF) Save the Himalaya Foundation said, “We are living in the Himalayan region and there is only one Himalaya in the world. It is the responsibility of us to maintain it. H.H has been doing a good job in addressing the global issues such as global warming and climate change. This is the best teaching we should follow.”

Mohd. Deen, Founder, (LEHO) Ladakh Environment & Health Organisation said, “The introduction of many industries and motor vehicles poses several threats to the environment, resulting in global warming. Within the period of past 15-20 years, 2 degrees of temperature has risen in the world due to which glaciers are melting very fast. If we don’t take it seriously from now and make way for a solution, we would surely have to become the refugee of water in the times to come. The only solution to sustain the ecology is a plantation.”

Srini, Co-founder Golden Mile Learning, Germany and Rajesh Patil, Co-Founder Golden Mile Learning, Mumbai also spoke on the occasion. They appreciated His Holiness initiative towards the environment and focus on the need to spread this message to the world.

Dr. Abdul Qayum, President, Anjuman Imamiya also spoke on the occasion.
