Nubra launches environment week with sapling plantation and community clean-up

As part of World Environment Week, a series of environmental initiatives kicked off in Nubra with a plantation drive held at Sumoor Samstanling Gonpa in the presence of SDM Nubra, IAS Mukul Beniwal.
The event was attended by key officials including the Naib Tehsildar Sumoor, the Nodal Officer for World Environment Week, Incharge Range Officer Nubra, Block Officer Diskit, and staff from the Forest and Wildlife Department. Monks from the monastery also participated, planting saplings and emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship from both spiritual and civic perspectives.
Later in the day, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the Hunder Sand Dunes—a popular tourist destination—organized by the Wildlife Department in collaboration with the Camel Association, local villagers, and shopkeepers. The initiative aimed to combat the growing problem of littering by encouraging community participation, promoting responsible tourism, and advocating for better waste management practices.
Both activities witnessed enthusiastic engagement from various sectors of the community, reflecting Nubra’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and conservation.
