New Districts Committee meets with LAHDC Kargil members on new district plans

On November 4, members of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Kargil, convened with the New Districts Committee of Ladakh to discuss the potential formation of new districts in the region.

The committee, chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, included Kacho Asfandyar Khan, Tsering Angchok, and Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Deputy Commissioner and CEO of LAHDC Kargil.

Representing LAHDC Kargil were Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Executive Councillor Kacho Mohd Feroz, along with all elected and nominated Councillors.

During the meeting, LAHDC Councillors expressed their individual perspectives and submitted written representations. The committee members listened attentively and assured the Councillors that their concerns and suggestions would be carefully reviewed.

In addition, Ladakh's Member of Parliament, Mohammad Haneefa Jan, also met with the New Districts Committee to discuss the issue. He emphasized that the aspirations of the people should be a priority, along with preserving traditional peace, harmony, and brotherhood. He also called for prioritizing the development of health, higher education, and other essential infrastructure in the new districts and existing subdivisions, with flexibility on population norms where necessary.
