The new district committee commenced its tour of the Changthang region on October 23 by visiting the Durbuk Subdivision.

The committee, formed to assess the feasibility of creating five new districts in Ladakh—Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar, and Drass—is chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.). Other members include Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), along with the Deputy Commissioners of Leh and Kargil.

During their visit, the committee held a meeting at the Tangtse community hall, where they engaged with local residents, councillors, former councillors, village leaders, and the SDM. The committee listened attentively to the concerns and opinions of the local delegations.

Chairman Pramod Kumar Jain assured the community that the committee would conduct a thorough study of their needs and concerns, considering all feedback. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from the local residents.

This visit follows the Ministry of Home Affairs' "in-principle approval" for the creation of new districts in Ladakh, aimed at improving governance and ensuring that government services reach the most remote areas.
