Men-Tsee-Khang celebrates 54th Anniversary

The Tibetan Medical and Astro. Institute celebrated 54th founding anniversary of Men-Tsee-Khang on 23 March at Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural centre. Rigzin Spalbar, Chief Executive Councillor (LAHDC) Leh, was the Chief Guest and Dr. Sonam Wangchok, EC Health was the Guest of honour, Dr. Padma Gurmet, Officer In charge of National Research Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Tundup Tashi, Chief Representative of Sonamling Tibetan Settlement and other distinguished members were present on the occasion.
 
The programme was initiated by the lighting of the holy lamp by Chief Guest Rigzin Spalbar, CEC Leh and later on recitation of Yuthok prayer by all the people. The Tibetan Medical and Astro. Institute, is a cultural, charitable and educational institute which was registered under the Society Registration Act of 1860. The main objective of this institution is to preserve, promote, propagate and revive the ancient system of Traditional Tibetan medicine (Sowa-Rigpa) and astrology practiced thousands years in Tibet. Men-Tsee-Khang mainly comprised of the medical and Astrological college, Editorial and publications, Herbal product research, Clinical research, Pharmaceutical. In addition, it also runs 55 branch clinics which are in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Abroad.
  
On this occasion, Rigzin Spalbar, CEC Leh in his speech emphasized that Men-Tsee-Khang which was re-established on March 23, 1961 in India by His Holiness 14th Dalia Lama. During that times he himself said, “Right now Men-Tsee-Khang is very small, facing problems in terms of finances and man power. But some 30 to 40 years later, the Tibetan medicine will speak for itself”. In addition to that he said that Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural centre in Leh was set up by His Holiness himself on 30 June, 2003 and the working members contributed commendable performance till now and he is assured that in the coming year they will also perform much better and will do progressive work. He also assured that if they need any help and any kind of problem they face, in that case LAHDC, Leh is ready to assist them in any circumstances.
 
Dr. Padma Gurmet, Officer in charge of NRI of Sowa-Rigpa said that when Men-Tsee-Khang was established, ancient Tibetan Science of Healing (Sowa-Rigpa) also became famous, not only in India but all around the world. Now a days Men-Tsee-Khang has become one of the most charitable centre for the needy, substantially benefit for humanity and they organize free medical camp at various places. 

Later on, a documentary movie on free medical camp to Changthang nomadic areas was also screened during the occasion.

At the end, vote of thanks was given by Rigzin Dorjee, one of the member of Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural centre.
