Lt Governor discusses Amendments to University of Ladakh Act 2018
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), chaired a meeting to deliberate on proposed amendments to the University of Ladakh Act, 2018, aimed at transforming the University into a state university with affiliated colleges.
Commissioner/Secretary, Padma Angmo, IIS, briefed the LG on the University Council's recommendation to amend the existing Act, replacing the current cluster university model with a state university structure. She informed that the proposal would be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs after receiving approval from the LG.
The meeting discussed the potential benefits of establishing the University of Ladakh as a state university, including streamlined recruitment processes with a reservation quota, the applicability of domicile laws, and other related issues.
The LG directed Secretary, GAD, Michael D’Souza, IAS, to examine the implementation of domicile laws in state universities in Goa, Karnataka, and Northeast India to assess their applicability to the proposed framework.
