Lieutenant Governor BD Mishra joins Drass community in celebrating district status

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired), attended a public gathering in Drass on August 28, where the community celebrated the recent decision to grant district status to the region.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, Shree Raam R, and other officials, the LG was warmly welcomed by the residents of Drass, who were overjoyed by the fulfillment of their long-standing demand.

Addressing the gathering, Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra congratulated the people of Drass on achieving district status, as announced by the Government of India. He expressed his happiness and emphasized that this milestone would bring enhanced development and governance directly to the people of the region.

The Lt Governor also expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their role in approving the creation of five new districts in UT Ladakh, a move aimed at accelerating regional development.

In his address, the LG shared that since his appointment, he has been committed to improving the region, and the establishment of the new districts marks a significant step toward a brighter future for Ladakh. He underscored the importance of women's participation in the development and progress of society.

During the event, Councilor Ranbirpora Abdul Samad, Councilor Bhimbat Abdul Wahid, along with political and religious leaders, prominent citizens, and women representatives, expressed their deep gratitude to the Narendra Modi-led government for granting district status to Drass.

Earlier in the day, at Dak Bunglow Drass, a delegation led by Councilor Ranbirpora Abdul Samad, Councilor Bhimbat Abdul Wahid, and BJP Chief Patron Drass, Fayaz Qari, along with other prominent citizens, met with the LG to personally thank him for his efforts in securing district status for Drass. They also extended their thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for this significant announcement.
