LAHDC Leh explores new framework for Project Tsangda

Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, convened a review meeting at the Council Secretariat on May 16 to assess the progress of Project Tsangda, LAHDC Leh’s flagship solid waste management initiative.

The meeting focused on evaluating the current operations of the project and exploring strategies to enhance its efficiency and sustainability.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk; Executive Councillors Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, Stanzin Chosphel, and Ghulam Mehdi; Administrative Secretary Shashanka Ala (IAS); DC/CEO LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; ACD A.G. Zargar; DPO Akeel Sajjad; and Project Director, LREDA, Iftikar Hussain. Director RDD UT Ladakh, Syed Sajjad Qadri, joined the meeting virtually.

The officials engaged in detailed deliberations to identify measures for strengthening the project’s implementation and ensuring its long-term viability.
Chairman Gyalson emphasized the need to establish a more dedicated and robust structure for managing solid waste in the district. The meeting discussed the possibility of formulating a specific mandate to make the waste management system more autonomous and functional. Additionally, a proposal was put forward to integrate Project Tsangda with the Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA), aiming to create a specialized team for solid waste management under a consolidated framework.

A draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining the proposed collaboration with LREDA is currently in progress.

Administrative Secretary, RDD UT Ladakh, Shashanka Ala (IAS), also shared her insights on streamlining existing processes and enhancing interdepartmental coordination to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.
