Ladakh pays tributes to Ambedkar on his 127th birth anniversary Hemishukpachan awarded for not practising caste system in village

Remembering Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, people of Ladakh paid tribute on his 127th Birth Anniversary on April 14 at Polo ground Leh.

The day was organised by Ladakh Buddhist Association, Youth Wing, Leh to commemorate his exemplary work in social, political and eradication of caste system in India.
 
His Eminence, Palga Rinpoche, chief guest of the occasion stress upon the equality and eradication of caste system in the society.

He said, “We must understand and follow the path of Dr. Ambedkar who struggled to eliminate caste system in the Indian society. He embraced Buddhism because he saw that there is no caste system in Buddhism. There is no caste system in Buddhism but what we see and consider today is self-created and one should treat every individual equal.” 

Talking about the importance of Bhoti language, he said, “We are losing the importance of our language while talking, I have seen many youths speaking mixed language.We must focus on speaking our own language and upholds the pride.”

Students from various school presented scintillating dance performance and skit on the life of Babasahib.

Gyal P. Wangyal, EC Health said, “It is the responsibility of all of us to end the evil system of caste in our society. If we erase it today, we can have an equal society in the future.”

While talking about the biography of Dr. B.R Ambedkar, Konchok Stak, President LBA, Youth Wing said, “There is no caste system in Buddhism but still it is practice in some sections of our society which needs to be eliminated and we should practically treat everyone as equal”.

He further said, “Dr. B.R Ambedkar has beautifully drafted the Indian Constitution, and it is only due to his contribution for the downtrodden community that we are getting reservations, equal rights, liberty and freedom in India.”

Hemishukpachan village was honoured for not having a tradition of the caste system in their society and treating everyone equal from the past years.

An essay writing competition among the school students was also held on the occasion. 

Rinchen Namgyal, LBA Vice President, Venerable Konchok Tharchin, General Secretary, LGA, students of different schools also spoke on the occasion.
