KVK, Leh celebrates International Women’s day
Celebrating International Women’s day, Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh, SKUAST-K organised a felicitation cum recognition programme on March 8 at KVK training hall, Stakna.
Many women, farm women, young students, and entrepreneurs from different villages of the district participated.
Vikas Gupta, SMS Plant Protection congratulated the participants and spoke about the importance of International Women’s Day. Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension) spoke on the importance and history of the day. He talked about the theme of the ICAR for this day, ‘Women Leadership in Agriculture: Entrepreneurship, Equity, and Empowerment, and how entrepreneurship can empower women.
H. L. Verma, SMS spoke on important women of the country who achieved distinction in their fields. Dr. Kunzes Angmo, Scientist at HMAARI elaborated on the various inequalities and disparities prevalent in society. She called upon the women to recognize them and act as change agents in society. Dr. Kunzang Lamo SMS (Veg. Science) presented her views on the role of women in agriculture and how women are involved in all agricultural-related activities. Jigmet Laskit, Programme Assistant shared her thoughts on various aspects of women empowerment.
The programme was held under the guidance of Dr. Feroz Din Sheikh, Programme Coordinator at Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh.
KVK-Leh also felicitated a young entrepreneur Sonam Angmo who recently received the ‘Krishak Award’ for her innovative farming and mushroom production in her village Likir.
Sonam Angmo thanked KVK-Leh for conducting different skill development and training programs which have enabled her and many others to set up their enterprise. A debate cum lecture was also organized in which Sonam Chosdol, a student presented her views about this day.
