Kisan Mela cum Fruit exhibition highlights horticultural success in Ladakh

LAHDC Leh hosted the Kisan Mela Cum Fruit Exhibition 2024 at the Horticulture Complex, Agling, Leh, on September 10. The event was graced by Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson as Chief Guest, and Executive Councillor for Horticulture, Ghulam Mehdi, as the Guest of Honour. Director of Horticulture UT Ladakh, Tsewang Phuntsog, also attended.

The exhibition displayed an impressive array of horticultural produce, including various apple varieties, chuli (a local apricot), watermelons, and a vibrant selection of flowers. The event highlighted the region's rich horticultural heritage and the remarkable efforts of local farmers. Each exhibit underscored the quality and diversity of Ladakh's produce, reflecting advancements in agricultural techniques and the dedication of the farming community. With over 450 exhibits of fruits, flowers, and value-added products, the exhibition was a testament to how modern farming practices are transforming local agriculture. More than 200 farmers attended the event.

In his address, CEC Adv. Tashi Gyalson emphasized the importance of events like the Kisan Mela in showcasing the progress of local farmers. He stressed the vital role of collaboration between farmers and government departments to ensure access to the necessary support and equipment. Gyalson encouraged farmers to fully utilize the resources and subsidies offered by LAHDC to improve their agricultural practices, especially for horticulture tools. He also expressed a desire to expand such events to remote regions like Sham, Changthang, and Rong to raise awareness about agricultural advancements and provide broader support.

The CEC commended the Horticulture Department for organizing the event and fostering collaboration between farmers and scientists.

Executive Councillor Ghulam Mehdi highlighted the benefits of adopting modern farming technologies and emphasized the need to continue innovating in the horticulture sector. He underlined how integrating new methods could enhance productivity and better support farmers in Ladakh.

The Kisan Mela Cum Fruit Exhibition 2024 not only celebrated the agricultural achievements of Ladakh but also promoted further development and cooperation in the horticultural sector.
