Kargil observes World Sparrow Day

The World Sparrow Day was observed in Kargil during which hundred of bird lovers participated in a symbolic procession from Auditorium Hall Kargil to Academy Hall Baroo on 20th March.
The programme was organized by Ranthag Theatre Group Kargil Ladakh in collaboration with Exploration and Preservation of Cultural Heritage Trust (EPOCH) Kargil.
On this occasion SSP Kargil Dr Shilendra Kumar Mishra was the chief guest and Ashwani Kumar, DFO Kargil was the guest of honour.
Member of Ranthag Theatre Group presented a Drama on Sparrow and its preservation, and other participants presented speech and songs on Sparrow and Bird Preservation.
The chief guest appreciated the effort of the NGO’s and youths for organizing this programme.
He told that such programmes provides platform to nature and birds lovers to come forward on one platform and can try to save the endangered species of nature.
Taking a serious note of the open defecation along the Suru River in Kargil SSP Kargil told that police Kargil is taking a serious note of the issue and soon will be launching a massive campaign of cleanliness of the River Bank as well. In this way, they can create awareness among the people about the effects of Open Defecation.
Nasir Ud Din Khafi of the NGO told that House sparrow is slowly vanishing from Kargil which should be seen as serious issue.
World Sparrow Day is a day designated to raise awareness of the house sparrow and other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations, observed on 20 March. It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organisations across the world.
