Chairman/CEC Adv Tashi Gyalson of LAHDC, Leh, held a productive meeting with Dr. Swee Chong Quek and his team on August 10 to discuss the ongoing Himalayan Women Health Project.

This initiative, a collaborative effort between the Council and Mahabodhi, aims to enhance women's health in the Himalayan region through essential cervical cancer screenings. During the meeting, it was noted that Dr. Quek and his team have conducted extensive cervical screenings in Leh, including remote areas such as Zanskar.

CEC Tashi Gyalson expressed his appreciation for their dedication and annual visits, acknowledging their crucial role in providing health services. He also extended sincere gratitude to Dr. Nordan Otzer for his years of dedicated work in assisting women with screenings and raising awareness about cervical cancer through the project.

The discussion also covered future steps in combating cervical cancer, including potential vaccination programs. CEC Gyalson emphasized the need to address gaps in vaccination coverage, particularly for excluded groups who have not yet received this essential preventive measure. He proposed providing supplementary budget support to enhance these efforts and ensure broader access to vaccinations.

A roadmap for eradicating cervical cancer was outlined, focusing on strategic planning and community engagement to achieve long-term health improvements. Chairman Gyalson commended Dr. Quek and his team for their invaluable contributions and expressed his commitment to advancing collaborative efforts to fight cervical cancer in the region.
