GDC Kargil celebrates World Environment Day
Government Degree College, Kargil in collaboration with Municipal Committee, Kargil organised cleanliness drive at the Kako Shilikchey spring water site and along the Kargil-Drass National Highway on June 5.
The event was organized to raise awareness about cleanliness, ecosystem restoration and to increase the overall quotient of environmental consciousness among the general public as a whole.
Every year, 5th June is celebrated as ‘World Environment Day’. The drive was carried out to highlight this year’s theme of ecosystem restoration by emphasizing on the importance of maintenance of pristine and green natural ecosystem such as Kako Shilikchey spring site.
The staff of GDC, Kargil, and the Municipal Committee, Kargil, enthusiastically engaged in a range of activities, including litter collection and raising environment-themed slogans, thereby raising awareness among the town's people.
The participating departments of GDC, Kargil, included the Department of Environmental Science, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Biochemistry, Department of Geology, and Department of Education. The staff and students of these departments actively participated to ensure the success of this drive.
Lastly, the Municipal Committee Kargil provided garbage bags for waste collection, gloves, masks and dumper for waste transportation to the segregation unit.
Also, the staff of MC, Kargil participated in waste collection and slogan raising activities along with students and staff of the college. The Municipality works tirelessly to enhance the quality of life for residents and safeguard the environment.
