Empowering Farmers: Nubra hosts one-day capacity development program

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nubra, Mukul Beniwal (IAS), inaugurated a one-day Sensitisation-cum-Capacity Development Program at the SDM Conference Hall in Diskit on April 21. The program was organized by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
Addressing the gathering, SDM Nubra appreciated the efforts of the organisers and directed the Horticulture and Agriculture Officers of Nubra to provide regular support to farmers, rather than limiting assistance to annual visits. He urged farmers to make full use of various government schemes and emphasized the potential of local produce—apples, apricots, and seabuckthorn—as key regional assets that can be developed to boost income and livelihood opportunities.
Dr. Sonam Dawa, Horticulture Officer, Nubra, briefed attendees about departmental schemes accessible through online platforms.
Chemet Lhamo, In-charge SDAO, Agriculture Department Nubra, also provided detailed insights into the schemes available through the agriculture office.
Dr. Rigzin Tsewang and Bhaskar, Director of Finance Compliance, highlighted the objectives of the program, stressing the importance of promoting agri-exports, organic farming, and the export potential of Ladakh’s unique agricultural products.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from a large number of farmers from Hunder and Diskit, who actively engaged in the session.
