Dorjey Motup, CEC stresses bank branches expansion in rural areas

To ascertain the present bank services and their plans to cover the rural population of the district, a meeting of all the banks, financial institutions, stakeholders and the line departments was convened by Dorjey Motup, CEC on April 5 at Council Secretariat, Leh.
Talking about the role of financial institutions in the development and social upliftment of a region, Dorjey Motup took a detail report from all the banks about their services especially in rural and far-flung villages of Leh district.
He urged the financial institution especially banks to expend their branches in rural areas so that various beneficial schemes including flagship programmes of GOI could reach to the masses. And also, directed to undertake financial literacy campaign in coordination with Hill Council and line departments to aware people about various financial schemes introduced by the government.
Stressing upon the absence and need of good multipurpose auditorium hall in Leh, he requested the banks to raise funds under their CSR scheme to reconstruct the government Auditorium hall of District Information Centre, Leh.
He appreciated the good coordination among District Treasury Office, line departments and banks in ensuring smooth function of all kind of financial transactions and also urged them to look into the loopholes and work on improving the services for a maximum public benefit.
Tsering Wangdus, EC, Agriculture urged upon the banks to be more forthcoming and cordial in giving loans to the local people considering their good record of loan return well on time.
Tsering Sandup, EC, Tourism asked for SBI branch in Nubra to which General Manager, SBI responded that a proposal has been already submitted.
Gyal P. Wangyal EC, Health pointed out the need to have ramps in banks to facilitate physically challenged person. He also raised the need for banks to have their names highlighted for any social services carried through NGOs.
Mumtaz Hussain, EC, Animal Husbandry urged upon the need to open three branches in different part of Chuchot for which General Manager, J&K Bank informed about opening up of a branch in Chuchot Shamma soon.
The issue of ATMs of all banks in Choglamsar area, problems faced by people in availing KCC loan at SBI branch, Kharu, Choglamsar and poor counter service was highlighted by Punchok Dorjey, Councillor Phyang constituency and Tsering Paldan, Councillor Igoo constituency.
The meeting was also attended by Tsering Paldan, ACD Leh, District Treasury Officer, Leh, Account Officer DC Office Leh, Bank managers and representatives of all the banks operating in Leh headed by Lead Bank Manager, Leh and member of Ex-Man Welfare Society and Member of BJP Mandal, Basgo.
