Delegation from Changthang region comprising Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee; Councillor, Nyoma, Eshey Spalzang; Councillor, Korzok, Karma Namdak and Nominated Councillor, Ven Konchok Tsephel met L-G Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at Raj Niwas on February 25.

The delegation led by Tashi Namgyal Yakzee congratulated Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on assuming the charge of the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. They requested to grant district status to Changthang; the need for inclusion of Nyoma sub-division for uninterrupted electricity coverage through Northern Power Grid Transmission lines being laid; the need for a separate Tourism Development Authority for Chandigarh to develop tourism-related infrastructure and facilities; issuance of Actual Line of Control (ALC) certificate so that the youth can avail benefits during recruitment drives; the need for opening Govt Degree College at Nyoma and Durbuk sub-division; the need for rationalization of the wildlife area in Changthang to avoid hindrance in developmental works and the need for upgradation of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Nyoma to Sub-District Hospital. They also requested to continue the Changthang Development Package for the benefit of the people of Changthang. 

Later, Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Mohsin Ali also met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at Raj Niwas. 

Lieutenant Governor, Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) inquired about the functioning of the governance at the grassroots level in Ladakh. Mohsin informed about Rs 1 crore fund allocated to Block Development Councils (BDCs) and Councillors for carrying out developmental activities in their constituencies. He requested to define the roles of the elected representatives and the government officials to avoid interference and duplicity of developmental works.

Mohsin requested the fulfillment of the long-pending demand of the people of Kargil for a full-fledged airstrip for the operation of civil flights. He also requested intervention in improving the telecommunication connectivity in remote villages of the Kargil district. He assured to provide full support and work in close coordination with the UT Administration for the development of Ladakh.
