Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, convened a meeting of the Destination Management Committee under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 initiative to discuss the scheme’s implementation on November 6 at the DC Office, Leh.

A detailed presentation showcased the development of various projects under the scheme. The meeting noted that land allotment for the Igoo-Phey Canal project is still pending. Plans for developing recreational activities and spaces along the Igoo Phey Canal/Stok link road were also discussed, such as cycling and walking ramps, food stalls, souvenir shops, star gazing areas, glamping sites, and viewpoints.

Additional topics included the Visitors Management System, Prayatak Seva Kendra, themes for public art, content for web creation, and finalization of an official logo for Leh District.

Tourism industry stakeholders expressed concerns regarding the project’s feasibility due to low tourist footfall, suggesting that the project be relocated to Gonpa to complete the long-pending Wheel of Life project under the scheme.

DC Leh instructed the Revenue Department to expedite necessary changes and paperwork for land allotment. He also requested detailed data on each development site from the Swadesh Darshan team and urged consultation with tourism stakeholders for public art ideas and web content. All suggestions were noted for further consideration by higher authorities.

The team shared their monthly progress report during the meeting, which was attended by the Superintendent of Police, AD Tourism, AD Information, Tehsildar Leh, officials from various departments, and stakeholders from the tourism industry.
