Director of the Sainik Welfare Department and Secretary of the Rajya Sainik Board Ladakh, Colonel (Retd) Lobzang Neema, along with Goba of War Heroes Colony, Tsephel, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on October 22. They discussed the allotment of land for Nyima Lamo, widow of the late Nyima Tenzing.

Principal Secretary Sanjeev Khirwar, Commissioner/Secretary to the LG Dr. L Franklin, Secretary Vikram Malik, and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Leh, Shabbir Hussain, were also present during the meeting.

Col. Neema informed the LG about Nyima Lamo's request for land allotment in Agling. Currently, she resides in rented accommodation with her three children. He noted that her husband, Nyima Tenzing, sacrificed his life during the Galwan clash while fighting enemy forces.

Col. Neema also brought to the LG’s attention the land allotted to war widows and veer naris at the War Heroes Colony.

Additionally, Goba Tsephel requested the establishment of a War Memorial at the War Heroes Colony and land allotment for the daughter of a Veer Chakra recipient.

The LG emphasized the importance of creating a policy for the allotment of land to veer naris and war widows through a Board of Officers, which will be constituted by the Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), UT Ladakh, within three weeks. He assured that the requests of deserving veer naris and war widows whose kin died serving the nation would be considered once the policy is in place.

Furthermore, the LG highlighted the need to identify a suitable location for a War Memorial, which would include a plaque honoring the martyrs. The memorial should be in a central area with ample parking space, allowing people to visit and pay tribute to the fallen heroes.
