CEC Kargil takes stock of snow clearance work on Kargil-Srinagar road
Feroz Ahmad Khan, CEC, LAHDC, Kargil took stock of the snow clearance work on the Kargil-Srinagar road on December 5.
The snow clearance team informed that the clearance operations are presently underway from both Zero Point and Pani Matha on either side of the Zojila Pass. Subject to fair weather conditions, the highway is expected to be cleared by December 7.
They said that due to recurrent snow blizzard on the road stretch between Zero Point and India Gate of the Zojila axis, they are facing difficulties in snow clearance operations.
Feroz Khan appreciated the engineers, technicians, drivers, laborers and other manpower of Project Vijayak, Project Beacon, Police Department, Mechanical Division and other concerned agencies for their untiring efforts in clearing up the snow despite the hostile weather condition.
He urged them to continue with the same commitment so that the highway is made clear for the stranded passengers and to supply required essential commodities to Ladakh.
Members of Ladakh Rescue Centre apprised Feroz Khan about the conduct of pilot on 15 kilometers on both sides of the Zojila Pass (30 kilometers in total), the proposal for which has got the approval of the Ministry of Defence recently. They also informed him about the types of machinery, chemicals, and manpower to be used for snow clearance operations during the winter season.
Feroz Khan further urged the Corps Commander 14 Corps, Lt General Harinder Singh to keep the Army location at Gumri stationed there till late winter to render necessary assistance to the snow clearance team besides supporting the Civil Administration in case of any possible exigencies.
