CEC Kargil Dr. Akhoon reviews Sodh Lift Irrigation project, urges fast-track completion

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon convened a comprehensive review meeting on May 13 to assess the progress of the Sodh Lift Irrigation Project. The meeting focused on evaluating the current status, addressing bottlenecks, and accelerating the project’s timely completion.

Dr. Akhoon assured that solar power backup will be incorporated in the project's second phase to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for irrigation. Expressing concern over the delays, he underlined the urgency of completing the project to address the challenges faced by the local farming community.
"We are fully committed to resolving both technical and non-technical issues swiftly. Despite budget constraints, priority works must be executed for the welfare of the public," Dr. Akhoon stated.

He also gathered detailed feedback from all concerned departments regarding both technical and administrative hurdles. Officials assured that all pending issues would be addressed promptly and that efforts are underway to complete the project as soon as possible.

The CEC further reviewed the status of lift irrigation projects in Styankung, Lhalung, and Brakoo Strakburik, which officials reported are nearing completion. The progress of the Chanigund Lift Irrigation Project was also discussed, with testing scheduled by May 25.

Additionally, Dr. Akhoon directed the concerned departments to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the canal works demanded by the people of Sodh region to ensure efficient water distribution in the future.

Supporting the concerns, Hon’ble Councillor of Sodh Constituency, Manzoor Hussain, urged the administration to expedite the project. He highlighted the severe water scarcity currently affecting farmers during the ongoing irrigation season.

"People are anxious. Water is essential for our fields, and most of our residents rely on agriculture for their livelihood," he emphasized.

The meeting was attended by Councillor Manzoor Hussain; Chief Engineer/SE, Mohd Abass; Executive Engineer, Irrigation, Ghulam Hussain; Executive Engineer, Mechanical, Mohd Hassan; other concerned officials, senior citizens, and public representatives from the region.
