Advisor Ladakh reviews implementation of District Environment Plan

Advisor Ladakh, Umang Narula discussed the implementation of the District Environment Plan as per orders passed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on June 15.
 
Issues related to effective solid waste management, bio-medical waste management and plastic waste management were discussed in the meeting. 

The Advisor was informed that as per NGT directions, District Environment Plan has to be made by the district under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner. After the district level plans are made, they have to be implemented by a committee led by the Deputy Commissioner, local bodies, Panchayats, Pollution Control Committee and officers of the administration. 
 
Advisor further informed that the UT administration has constituted a task force on the directions of the Prime Minister for plastic waste management. He further directed all the stakeholders to prepare a plan for plastic waste management which is a top priority. Further, all concerned officers were asked to prepare plans for a modern system to dispose of biomedical, construction and hazardous waste.
 
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment; Secretary, Industries and Commerce; Chief Conservator of Forest Ladakh/ Member Secretary Pollution Control Committee Ladakh and Deputy Commissioner Leh/Kargil.
