Advisor Dr. Pawan Kotwal chairs meeting on Shanti Stupa beautification
Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh, chaired a meeting with various departments on October 14 to discuss issues related to the beautification of Shanti Stupa in Leh.
During the meeting, Tsering Samphel, Secretary of the Ladakh Shanti Stupa Management Committee, highlighted key concerns regarding the management of the stupa. These included the need for reliable power and water supply, relocating the existing cafeteria to a more suitable location, developing a footpath along the hillside for visitors, and finalizing the land demarcation around the stupa to prevent encroachment. He emphasized the urgency of addressing these issues.
Dr. Kotwal assured the committee of his commitment to enhancing the beautification and management of Shanti Stupa, one of Leh’s most prominent tourist attractions. He emphasized that the UT Administration will make every effort to develop the site and resolve related issues in a timely manner. He instructed the concerned departments to collaborate and ensure the preservation of Shanti Stupa's aesthetic appeal while making it more accessible and visitor-friendly.
The meeting was attended by Vikram Singh Malik, Administrative Secretary of the PDD/Tourism & Culture Department; Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhdeve; President of the Shanti Stupa Management Committee, C. Phunsog; Chief Engineer, PW(R&B); Chief Engineer, PDD; Secretary of the Ladakh Shanti Stupa Management Committee, and Tehsildar Leh.
