A total of 107 cases were taken up for hearing out of which 79 disposed off during the National Lok Adalat day on April 22 at District Court Complex, Kargil.

 

It was also organised in Munsif Court Drass and Sankoo by District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kargil.

Three benches were constituted at each court premises for settlement of cases and resolution of disputes.  The bench was presided over by Sanjiv Kumar Bhagat, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Principal District & Session Judge Kargil. Spalzes Angmo, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kargil was also present.

A number of cases requiring immediate attention were disposed off and resolution of disputes was also made on the spot to facilitate the litigants.

During the daylong proceedings an amount of ₹7, 70,874 was released and deposited into Government Treasury. A case of MV Act also settled in which the injured was compensated with ₹1, 10,000.

A number of cases pertaining to Labor and Police Act as well as Minor Compoundable cases were also taken up for hearing. An amount of ₹ 6, 43, 774 was awarded in favor of the petitioner in one of the cases relating to a pre-litigation matter wherein the Executive Engineer Division 1st undertook to pay the amount as soon as possible.

 

Sanjiv Kumar Bhagat said that the District Legal Services Authority, Kargil shall convene Lok Adalat in inaccessible areas of the district in future so that the benefit of access to justice reaches people.

He also expressed gratitude to the members of the Bar Association and the public for their participation.

Appreciating the efforts of DLSA Kargil in organizing the Lok Adalat, people reaffirmed their confidence in the judicial system and requested similar sessions in the times to come.

Advocate Khadim Hussain, President, Bar Association, Kargil, and advocates of Bar Association prominent citizens and a large number of people including litigants were present on the occasion.
