35th National road safety month campaign begins
The 35th National Road Safety Month was inaugurated on January 15 at DC Conference Hall in Leh, marking a month-long campaign from January 15 to February 14.
The Motor Vehicle Department, in collaboration with Togo Hyundai, Leh, organised a road safety awareness camp. Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, flagged off the National Road Safety rally from the DC office gate to Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Leh.
DC, Leh emphasised mandatory health checkups and license checks for drivers during this campaign, aiming to reduce road accidents and fatalities.He informed that the collaborative efforts of UT administration, associations, and youth during this month-long initiative are geared towards creating awareness and minimising road accidents and fatalities in Leh Ladakh.
Additionally, he urged the driver’s community to secure insurance and register in government social security schemes. He also added that the ambitious target of the campaign is to achieve zero accidents and zero casualties by 2030.
Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Mujeeb-ur Rehman Bhat, highlighted the objective of saving lives and reducing road accidents in Ladakh. He urged the public to adhere to traffic rules, citing the previous year's statistics of 289 accidents in Ladakh.
The campaign saw the participation of DySP Traffic; Regional Transport Officer and Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Leh. Besides, officials from different departments, Presidents of associations and unions, and students were also present during the meeting.
