12th ABCP General Assembly for Buddhist Peace held in New Delhi
The 12th General Assembly of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP) took place at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi on January 17-18.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice-President of India, who inaugurated the 2-day event. The assembly was attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rinchen Lhamo (Member, National Minorities Commission), and delegates from 15 Asian countries, totaling around 80 eminent Buddhist leaders. Distinguished guests, including the 20th Bakula Rinpoche, HE Kundeling Rinpoche; HE Nechung Kuden Rinpoche; Chering Dorjay, Vice President, Ladakh Buddhist Association; Rigzin Dorjey, President, LBA Youth Wing; Tsering Samphel, Former LBA President and senior leader from Ladakh were also present.
During the assembly, a significant resolution was passed declaring His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama as the "Universal Supreme Leader of the Buddhist World," and designating his birthday, July 6, as the "Universal Day of Compassion." This resolution was proposed by Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo, Joint Secretary General of ABCP.
The assembly also recognised the outstanding contributions to world peace and service to humanity by conferring the prestigious "ABCP Medal of Honour" upon two distinguished individuals: Kiren Rijiju and Ven. Lama Lobzang.
This gathering not only served as a platform for fostering peace but also acknowledged and celebrated the exemplary efforts of individuals committed to the cause of global harmony.
