Senior Congress leader resigns from party Rigzin Spalbar decides to work to get Sixth schedule for Ladakh
Senior Congress leader/ Former CEC, Hill Council Leh, Rigzin Spalbar resigned from the party on August 30 to strive for including Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule.
He appreciated and welcomes the coming together of senior leaders from Leh Ladakh under the leadership of Thiksey Rinpoche and Thupstan Chhewang Former MP’s on a common apolitical platform to demand Constitutional Safeguard for Ladakh under the 6th Schedule.
“I am extremely happy, as I've been time and again since November 2019 writing and pleading to various members of civil society, socio-politico, and religious leaders/organisations to jointly assume responsibility, on an apolitical basis to come together and collectively work towards ensuring safeguards for the region under the 6th Schedule”, he added.
He said that the Constitutional Safeguards such as the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution allows not only for the region to maintain its distinctiveness as a tribal area but also those values that are required to sustain Ladakh into the future. Moreover, Sixth Schedule also provides the necessary framework through which legitimacy is given to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils to make laws to ensure the preservation and safeguard of its land, culture, and economic aspects, especially relevant in a UT without Legislature.
He further resolved to fully support the decision of senior leaders of Leh Ladakh and volunteer to strengthen the movement under their leadership.
