Block Development Council Chairmen takes oath in Leh

The newly elected Block Development Council Chairmen of 16 blocks of Leh district took oath on October 31 at DC office conference hall.
The oath was administered by Zakir Hussain, District Panchayat Officer Leh.
Gyal.P Wangyal, CEC, Leh congratulated the newly elected members. He talked about the responsibility of developing the rural sector which is facing problems of unemployment, and lack of basic infrastructure.
“Our aim is to empower the rural people by providing them education, employment generation, proper health care facility and other basic infrastructure’, he added
He further highlighted the importance of well thought on policy, plan, and coordination towards good governance.
Congratulating the newly elected members, Jamyang Tsering Namgail, MP said, “Winning an election doesn’t mean holding seat only, it’s our duty to perform and deliver as per public expectation.”
Sensing the importance of the first Block Development Council after Union Territory status, he requested the members to be responsible in close coordination with Council and Administration.
Tahir Hussain, Director Rural Development Department gave a brief introduction to the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act commonly known as the Panchayati Raj institution. He also briefed about the increase of funding flow from 2% to 30% after granting Union Territory and requested all the BDC for judicious and full utilization of funds.
