Meeting held on Road Safety Action Plan in Leh
A meeting to formulate District Road Safety Action Plan as prescribed by the Supreme Court Committee on road and safety was held on July 4 at DC Conference hall.
Avny Lavasa, DC also the Chairperson of District Road Safety Committee Leh chaired the meeting with all the stakeholders.
Talking about the purpose of the meeting, R.K Bhat, Additional Secretary (Technical), Secretariat of State Road Safety Council said that the aim is to assist and coordinate with various stakeholders to formulate district road safety action. Also, the target is to reduce 50% road accident in the year 2019-20.
He highlighted all the mandatory rules and procedures needed to be implemented by concerned departments while preparing DPR for their projects related to roads. Road safety management, safer roads, and mobility, safer vehicles, improvement in enforcement of traffic regulations, education and emergency care must be ensured.
He also urged DC Leh to initiate other activities like the formation of Road Safety Clubs in colleges and schools as per directions of the Supreme Court committee for which incentives will be provided.
Avny Lavasa directed all the concerned agencies to submit their targets as per Supreme Court Committee within ten days. Based on the targets implementation, follow-up and future plans will be initiated.
