Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson inaugurated the 5th edition of “Enchanting Ladakh”, an exhibition cum sale of handicrafts, handlooms, and processed food products of Ladakh on January 18 at Dilli Haat, New Delhi. 

Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce UT Ladakh, Sanjeev Khirwar, Director, Industries and Commerce, Muhammad Nazir Sheikh, and many other distinguished guests from the government and private sectors were present during the inaugural event. 

To expound the rich and diverse culture, tradition, and crafts of Ladakh, Enchanting Ladakh is organised every year by the Industries and Commerce Department at Dilli Haat. The event will conclude on January 31.

Many of the traditional Ladakhi crafts including wood carving, copper metal craft, woodcraft, felted wool toys, and unique Aryan valley hand embroidery making are on display along with live demonstrations at the venue. 126 artisans/SHGs/entrepreneurs from Ladakh are participating in the event, with the display and selling of their handmade exquisite products from across the region.

CEC Tashi Gyalson stated that several exposures are being provided to the artisans and craftspeople from Ladakh to showcase and promote their work in the national capital city and other parts of the country, through such exhibitions. He added that the ‘Enchanting Ladakh at Dilli Haat is one such example and an important platform for the artisans from Ladakh. He further mentioned that the ‘Brand Ladakh’ emporium at the Baba Kharak Singh Marg of Connaught Place is another platform where the products from Ladakh are available for sale and is hence a perfect opportunity for dealing with and developing commercial relationships with the rest of the country.

Six outstanding performing entrepreneurs/artisans in their respective sectors and cultural fields were felicitated with certificates of appreciation and mementos by the chief guest.

As informed, this year’s special focus has been given to the products that have recently been certified with the Geographical indication (GI) tag, like the Ladakhi Pashmina, Ladakhi Wood Carving craft, Ladakh Sea buckthorn and Ladakhi Apricot (Raktse Karpo).
