Srinagar-Leh highway expected to open in first week of April

Kargil :
The life line of Ladakh NH 1D, which connects Ladakh from the rest of the world after six months, will be open for vehicular traffic in the month of April.
 
This was stated by Commanding Officer BRTF Col Harish Kumar to the team of LAHDC headed by Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, at Shaitan Nallah Zojjila. 
 
The Executive Councilor was accompanied by Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, Engineer Phunchok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Fida Hussain, CMO Dr Shabir Hussain, Dy SP Aslam and other district officers.

The Highway was closed for traffic after heavy snowfall and avalanches at Zojjila from the last 5 months and this year in record time, the snow clearance work will be completed in one month in advance. For this 8 Snow Clearance Machines are on work and these machines clear 2 Km every day.

Col Harish told that the clearance work from Drass to Shaitan Nallah is completed in record time of 14 days and after four days they will reach Zero Point, which is 5 Kms away from shaitan Nallah. 

Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, Engineer Punchok Tashi and DC Fida Hussain appreciated the commendable job of the BRO Officials working there and presented them, gifts and traditional Khatak. 

The Project Beacon from Srinagar side has reached up to Captain Morh and will reach to their target in record time.

On this occasion the Chief Executive Councilor thanked and appreciated the role played by the Project VIJAYAK officials, Particularly Col Harish Kumar and requested them to continue their work after reaching Zero Point which will help to complete the snow clearance work in advance. He also appreciated the progress of Project Beacon and thanked Chief Engineer Project Beacon Brigadier Rawat for his personal interest in clearing the snow from Zojjila in Record Time.

The team later on way to Kargil inspected the working in various schools from Matayen to Drass and Suspended 10 teaching staffs that were not present on their duty. The team also inspected the working of the Sub District Hospital Drass and appreciated the role of the paramedics working in Drass.
