44th Chess Olympiad: Historic torch relay to reach Leh on June 20 Chess Olympiad Torch Relay is set to travel to 75 cities across India, before reaching its destination Mahabalipuram on July 27
The first-ever ‘Chess Olympiad Torch Relay’ will be launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 19 at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium in New Delhi. Starting from the national capital, the historic Olympiad Torch Relay will travel 75 cities across the country before reaching its destination--Mahabalipuram on July 27.
The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held in Chennai from July 28 to August 10, 2022.
Administrative Secretary, Sports, and Youth Services Department, UT Ladakh, Ravinder Kumar chaired a meeting to discuss the preparations for “Chess Olympiad Torch Relay on June 17. It was informed that the Chess Olympiad Torch Relay team will arrive in Leh on June 20 and the programme is scheduled to be held at Thiksey Monastery at 2 pm on the same day.
To popularise the game of Chess, Secretary directed the concerned officials to organise demo matches during the programme. He also urged to identify good chess players/chess clubs from Ladakh to participate in the demo matches. The chess players would also get an opportunity to interact with the members of the Relay team. The Secretary stated that this programme is a great initiative to motivate the players. Therefore, he directed the concerned officials to ensure proper arrangements to run the programme with ease.
