40th Senior National Archery Championship: Ladakh stands 5th position in Indian round, 16th in Compound round
Ladakh stood 5th position in the Indian round and 16th in Compound round during the 40th Senior National Archery Championship held in Jharkhand.
The archers Mohd. Hussain, Tsewang Sangdup, Mohd Shafi, Stanzin Chosphel who participated in the Indian Round, and Stanzin Jigdal who played in the Compound Round round were given a warm welcome on October 8 in Leh. All the archers are from Ladakh Scout Regimental Centre.
A total of 36 teams from different states with around 140 players in both the Indian and Compound round participated in the 40th edition of the Senior National Archery Championship. In the Compound round, Ladakh competed with India’s top team and loses the game with 9 points.
CEC, Hill Council, Leh Tashi Gyalson along with Deputy Chairman, Tsering Angchok felicitated the archers at Council Secretariat.
CEC congratulated the archers and appreciated their performance in the national championship. He applauded the performance of the archers who participated in the national championship representing UT Ladakh for the first time.
“The archers have shown their talent and listed the name of Ladakh in the national championship and made everyone feel proud. Competing with the best of the archers from different states and scoring 5th rank in the Indian round and 16th in the compound round is a good attempt. The credit goes to the hard work of the archers who played so well despite having infrastructure and various other challenges”, he added.
He further appreciated the work of the Ladakh Archery Association who has worked for the promotion of archery in Ladakh and provided different platforms at various levels to the young archers of Ladakh.
He further assured all support to Ladakh Archery Association to promote archery in Ladakh and groom young talented archers for the national and international level championships.
Skarma Tsering Deleks, Vice President, Ladakh Archery Association expressed gratitude to the Hill Council, Leh, UT Administration, and MP Ladakh who is also the President of the Ladakh Archery Association for their support to boost archery sports in Ladakh.
He said that archery is a part of Ladakh’s culture that should be protected and promoted for the benefit of our future generations. The sport has great potential and with proper training and needed infrastructure the talented young archers will bring glory not only to Ladakh but to the whole country, he added.
