Zanskar Police conduct awareness program on Motor Vehicle Act offences

An awareness program focusing on offences under the Motor Vehicle Act—especially that committed by juveniles—was held at the Conference Hall of the Tourist Dak Bungalow in Padum on May 6. The event highlighted the legal implications for guardians and vehicle owners under Sections 199A and 4/180 of the Act.

The program was presided over by the Chief Guest, Executive Councillor for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi. Among the dignitaries present were Tehsildar Zanskar, Mohd. Hassan; SHO Zanskar; Tourism Officer Zanskar; Presidents of the Nambardar Association, Taxi Union, Tempo Union, and Tipper Union; along with Lambardars, drivers, and members of the Zanskar Transport Cooperative Society.

SHO Zanskar, Stanzin Gyaltsan, delivered key instructions regarding the Motor Vehicle Act and traffic regulations. Participants appreciated the initiative taken by Police Station Zanskar to spread legal and safety awareness in the region.

In his address, Chief Guest Er. Punchok Tashi urged all drivers to strictly follow traffic rules. He underscored the important role drivers play in shaping visitors’ perceptions, stating, “A responsible driver is the region’s ambassador—their behavior leaves a lasting impression on tourists and visitors alike.”
